St John's Cathedral Chess Club was founded in 1992 and is one of three chess clubs in Norwich. In 2007 several members of the infamous Woodpushers Chess Club joined our club and we now have three teams entered in the Norfolk Chess League. You can follow the ups and down of the teams on the League pages.
We meet every Thursday at the social club of St John's Cathedral from 7.30 pm onwards. We have several members who do not play in league games, so there is always plenty of friendly chess going on. Please do come along if you are considering joining, although we do always suggest contacting us first so that we can make sure that there is someone to introduce you and give you a game.
Occasionally we organise coaching sessions and social evenings. During the summer months, when no league games are being played, we usually organise an internal club competition.
Recently we also organised a simultaneous match in honour of En Passant editor John Charman, in which Norfolk County Champion Dave LeMoir took on 32 players from Norfolk chess clubs.
That's right, we're no longer homeless! The refurbishment of the Narthex (the social club of St John's Cathedral) has finished and we've moved back into our old home. Many thanks to the Reindeer and Garden House for helping us through our nomadic period.
