St John's Phoenix Chess Club was founded in 1992 and is one of three chess clubs in Norwich. Originally, the name of the club was St John's Cathedral Chess Club. In 2011, after we could no longer afford to meet at the narthex at St John's Cathedral, it was decided to rename the club.
We got three teams entered in the Norfolk Leagues: the Crusaders, Templars, and Knights. You can follow their ups and downs on the Norfolk Chess website. From September 2011 we'll also be organising an ongoing internal competition.
We meet every Thursday at Keir Hardy Hall, right in the city centre of Norwich, from 7.30 pm onwards. You're welcome to come along, although we do always suggest contacting us first so that we can make sure there's someone to introduce you and give you a game.
